BADASS METAL ART
MADE OUT OF WASTE
Barefooted Welder leads a freestyle attitude and a renewed cultural storm to the metal art sculpture. The badass character of his striking creatures welded life-size and sometimes with gigantic dimensions, roar to overwhelm.
Scrap metal guides the freestyle art, as the recycled materials push the artist to think outside the box. Walking in the open landfills, collecting trash treasures and sorting them, allows ideas to evolve within an ocean full of possibilities. The end is to create something that you haven’t seen before.
Find Barefooted Welder in his shed in North Queensland making the sparks fly, using the endurance of scrap metal to transform it into remarkable beauty.
“It is my way of expressing the concept of beauty by using metals that once were scrap; to take something hard and heavy, humanise it, and do it gracefully.” MickyD.

Recycling Scrap Metal
Micky D. walks barefooted across landfills, hoping bins and stopping by hidden spots that were meant to be nature.
As vegetation makes its way between the dramatic scenery, there are loads of valuable materials that would involve much more energy and money if they were freshly extracted.
Since 2015 the Barefooted Welder has collected over 7 Tonnes of scrap metal, including steel, copper, and aluminum.
Leaving this waste behind has devastating effects on the Earth & our health: heavy metals leach and contaminate the soil and water system. The art raises awareness of this event while trying to keep alive the idea of what Australia used to be.
The positive impact of Barefooted Welder

Adventure is part of the creative process of the Barefooted Welder, to the point where there is no process. No rules, no boundaries.
“And if there are rules, I bend them. It is messy, and I own it”
MickyD.

BADASS ARTIST
Micky D. sculptures endure an adventurous Australian heritage, living in freedom from a very young age, spending most of his time outdoors, experiencing the ocean, and the wildest nature. Rebel by choice, his risk-taking attitude and adrenaline are present in his creations, to the point were fans commonly describe Barefooted Welder as the “badass” of metal art.
Making The Old Look New
The eclectic charming sculptures and their rebellious spirit walk barefoot on the wild side, revealing the lifestyle that comes with feeling the earth under your feet. Each of their cheeky and enthusiastic elements shows us that being ourselves is the best discipline.
“And I invent taking a risk, push any creative potential to the edge of what is possible. My first big metal sculpture was Kali, the Bengal tiger, and I built her from scratch, piece by piece, from the skeleton out - as if I was truly bringing her to life.” MickyD.
