State School Gumlu

Gumroo, the Kangaroo, is the official mascot of The State School Gumlu. The sculpture is decorated with a pumpkin vine, representing the farming culture from a tiny remote farming district in the Whitsunday Region of North Queensland. As usual, the art piece is 100% made of scrap metals and other recycled materials from the sugar cane industry, reused parts, and treasures collected locally.

With this new feature, State School Gumlu hopes to engage with children through creativity and imagination, showing a positive way of expressing the appreciation for wildlife, nature, and lifestyle in this small remote community.

“Sculptures have the capacity to bring your memories alive, so I wish to encourage children to be inspired by Gumroo, to keep on imagining, exploring, and always have fun!” MickyD
